Broken Eyes

This song was written a long time ago about a painting done by my friend Brynn Ronning-Sandoval. I can't even say that I remember what this painting looks like, but that doesn't matter. What matters is that her work inspired me to create something. I believe Brynn's work here was a triptych, and I had written a song for each of those three paintings. A song called 'Cruel Universe' which I released with my old band Clouds & Mountains was part of this triptych. It was on the Slumber release which you can find here on Bandcamp. Broken Eyes is a song that I remember being moved to write as a homage to the band Jennifer Gentle. I'm still in love with those first two albums they put out. Go check them out. I saw J.G. at the Hi Dive, and the DoDos were opening up for them. It was an excellent show. Can't forget it. I'm not sure why I felt moved to record this song after not doing so for such a long time, but I guess it just needed to be captured once and for all. I suppose I feel the need to clear the cobwebs out of my brain to make way for the new Creatures. So here is to getting things fully cooked and served, off the stove and into the world! lyrics BROKEN EYES You travel in broken eyes without moving your pristine sight. Light carries motionlessly. No cold winds, Godless empty. These moments are understood before your explanation of fires burning in between us. What a beautiful existence! We choose not to, to hold you, to hold you. Confusion constellations make my step falter from this. Points braided haphazardly float through this path that we seek. You left it all on your own. Strange shapes of glass are your throne. Persuaded by your desires leads others lost from their minds. We choose not to, to hold you, to hold you. We must hold you, not to, to hold you. What a beautiful existence!
