Broken Eyes

This song was written a long time ago about a painting done by my friend Brynn Ronning-Sandoval. I can't even say that I remember what this painting looks like, but that doesn't matter. What matters is that her work inspired me to create something. I believe Brynn's work here was a triptych, and I had written a song for each of those three paintings. A song called 'Cruel Universe' which I released with my old band Clouds & Mountains was part of this triptych. It was on the Slumber release which you can find here on Bandcamp. Broken Eyes is a song that I remember being moved to write as a homage to the band Jennifer Gentle. I'm still in love with those first two albums they put out. Go check them out. I saw J.G. at the Hi Dive, and the DoDos were opening up for them. It was an excellent show. Can't forget it. I'm not sure why I felt moved to record this song after not doing so for such a long time, but I guess it just needed to be captured once and for all. I suppose I feel the need to clear the cobwebs out of my brain to make way for the new Creatures.
